The spouse or family member of a Hungarian citizen can apply for a residence permit in Hungary. However, this type of residence permit application is the most often rejected by the authorities. Due to the large number of sham marriages, requests for family reunification are examined with particular attention by the Authorities, and despite the marriage, the applicanta are often not allowed to enter to Hungary.

There are countless misconceptions and inaccurate information about family reunification. Many applications are submitted incorrectly and therefore residence permit applications related to family reunification are rejected in the largest number.

MYTHS ABOUT FAMILY REUNIFICATION

1."AFTER MARRIAGE, THE SPOUSE AUTOMATICALLY GETS A RESIDENCE PERMIT..."

This is one of the most common misinformation. Many people believe that after marriage, their spouse will automatically receive a Hungarian residence permit. However, this is not the case! If the spouse cannot prove that he/she can ensure the conditions of stay in Hungary, his/her application is certain to be rejected. What are the conditions that must be met in any case:

You must have the financial background to ensure your stay in Hungary!

The most common reason for refusal is that the applicant "does not have the financial means to stay in Hungary" If it is not proven to the authorities that the applicant can cover the costs of his stay in Hungary, then it is certain that he will not be allowed to enter or stay here. You need at least HUF 3-4 million in savings or an income of at least HUF 240,000 to stay in Hungary.

They will not accept that"then he will look for a job in Hungary...". If someone wants to cover their stay in Hungary with wages, they must submit an application for a "residence permit for the purpose of employment". However, this requires a job offer from a Hungarian employer!

A statement of a Hungarian citizen who bears the costs may be a good option, but in this case the financial background of the investigating authority is the financial background of the investigating authority.

2."AFTER MARRIAGE, THE APPLICATION CAN BE SUBMITTED IN HUNGARY..."

The Hungarian authorities cannot issue a permit for the applicant to stay in another country. If someone wants to live and work in Germany or Great Britain, they must apply there.

4. THE APPROPRIATE APPLICATION MUST BE SUBMITTED!!

Family reunification procedures are quite complicated. It does not matter, for example, whether the applicant applies for a "Residence permit for family reunification", "Residence card for a family member of a Hungarian citizen" or "Residence card for a family member of an EEA citizen". Inappropriate applications will be rejected.
