How much money need for a Schengen Visa?

If somebody wants to travel to a Schengen country, he or she has to verify that he can cover the costs of his/her staying. One of the most common cause of the rejection is the lack of the sufficient funds. If the applicant cannot convince the Authorities that he or she has enough money to cover his cost during the visit his or her application will be rejected.

WHICH DOCUMENTS CAN VERIFY YOUR FINANCIALS?

The Authorities can accept a wide array of documents. The most commonly used are:

  • A personal bank statement indicating your financial movements (for at least 3 last months)

  • Credit card

  • Cash

  • Traveller’s cheques

  • Pay slips

  • Proof of employment

  • Supporting document to attest sponsor’s readiness to cover your expenses during your stay

  • Proof of prepaid accommodation

  • Document about accommodation in private

  • Proof of prepaid transport

BUT HOW MUCH MONEY IS REALY NEEDED?

The countries themselves can decide how much money they require from the applicant. The amount varies country by country. Some country demands less money if the applicant has a paid hotel booking or in some country the amount could be change by the length of the stay. It is important to learn the various regulations of the country where the applicant wants to travel.

So, let’s check the regulations country by country:

1. Austria

Austria is one of those country which does not stipulate the amount of the necessary means of subsistence. According to our experience the successful applicant has to verify at least 50 €/day ( ~ 62 $/day).

2. Belgium

If you stay in a hotel 95 € ( ~ 111 $) /day otherwise 45 € ( ~ 55 $) /day.

3. Czech

1100 CZK (Czech Koruna) /day which is about 43,5 € or 53 €

4. Denmark

If you stay in hotel 500 DKK (Danish Krone) ~ 67 € or 83 $ /day

In hostel 350 DKK ~ 47 € or 58 $ / day

5. Estonia

86 € / day

6. Finland

30 € /day

7. France

If you do not have accommodation or you want to stay in hotel 120 € (~ 148 $) /day. in case the applicant proofs cheaper forms of accommodation the amount decreases to 32.25€ (~ 40 $) / day.

8. Germany

45 € (~ 49 $) daily

9. Greece

50 € (~ 62 $)/ day but minimum 300 € (~ 370 $)/visit

10. Hungary

Hungary does not stipulate the amount.According to our experience the successful applicant has to verify at least 23 €/day (~ 28 $)/ day.

11. Iceland

4000 ISK (Icelandic Krona) (~ 33 € or ~ 41 $)/ day But minimum is 20 000 ISK (~ 164 € or ~ 203 $)/ trip.

12. Italy

The daily amount depends on the length of the stay and the number of the persons who are travelling together.

For Stays up to 5 days

The overall amount is (~ 333 $) /person and 213(~ 263 $)/two and more persons.

For Stays 6-10 days

The daily amount is (~ 56$) /person and 26 € (~ 33$) /two and more persons.

For Stays 11-20 days

The daily amount is (~ 46$) /person and 26 € (~ 33$) / two and more persons.

For Stays over 20 days

The daily amount is (~ 35 $) /person and 17 € (~ 21 $) / two and more persons.

13. Latvia

17 € (~ 21 $) / day (This is the lowest amount in whole Europe!)

14. Lithuania

95 €/ or ~ 117 $/ day.

15. Luxemburg

Does not stipulate the amount.According to our experience the successful applicant has to verify at least 95 €/day (~ 117 $)/ day.

16. Malta

48 € (~ 59$) daily

17. Netherlands

34 € (~ 42$) daily

18. Norway

500 NOK (Norwegian Krone) which is ~ 53 € or 64 $

19. Poland

The daily amount depends on the length of the stay and on the type of the accommodation.

Up to 3 days:

The overall amount is 300 PLN (Polish Zloty) ~ 72 € or 89 $

For Stays exceeding 3 Days:

The daily amount is 100 PLN ~ 24 € or 30 $

If the accommodation has already covered the daily amount is only 20 PLN ~ 5 € or 6 $!

20. Portugal

Daily 40 € or ~ 50 $ /daily but minimum 75 € ~ 93 $ /visit

21. Slovakia

56 € (~ 69 $) / day

22. Slovenia

70 € (~ 86 $) / day child under 18 years 35 € (~43 $)

23. Spain

Up to 10 days

Minimum 574 € (~ 708 $)

Over 10 days

71 € (~ 86 $) / day

24. Sweden

450 SEK (Swedish Krona) ~ 43 € or 53 $ daily

25. Switzerland
